Holotropic Breathwork® is an experiential method of self-exploration and healing first developed by Dr. Stanislav and Christina Grof. It is a simple process using the breath and evocative background music to access unconscious material within the psyche, ripe to be encountered, worked with, and integrated.

Holotropic means “moving toward wholeness.” A core principle of this modality is that the breather’s healing intelligence guides the process. Usually structured as a day-long workshop, participants work in pairs. A team of at least two trained facilitators are present in a non-directive role to ensure safety and the deep support of the process, and to attend to everyone’s needs as expressed throughout the day.

What to Expect

Preparation

Make initial contact with a facilitator to answer any preliminary questions about the workshop and to consider whether a breathwork workshop is a right fit for your needs at this time.

Attend an introductory talk online or in person for an overview of Holotropic Breathwork® and practical information to prepare for the workshop.

Session

Come together with other workshop participants for the opening circle.

Experience being a breather for a three-hour session on the mat and a sitter for your partner’s session.

Engage in integration activities such as mandala drawing and a sharing circle.

Integration

It is said that the integration process is almost more important than the breathwork session itself. For this reason, after the event, a follow-up phone call or online integration group is offered to all participants.

We encourage participants to have a willingness to engage the material that emerged during the session and have resources in place that may be supportive of their processes after the workshop.
